The pluck development team is proud to announce the release of pluck 4.7 beta. This beta release contains the latest developments the pluck development team has worked on. This release is a development release, which means it is not yet suitable for production environments. For regular users, we recommend to wait for pluck 4.7 stable before updating.
The most notable new feature in the pluck 4.7 series is the support for SEO-friendly URLs and sub pages. Also an important new feature is the new module system with hooks. Next to this, a lot of smaller features have been added, and almost all of the code has been reviewed and rewritten. For a complete list of changes, look at the release notes.
Please note that modules written for pluck 4.6 won't work anymore in pluck 4.7. Also, themes will need a few small changes to work with pluck 4.7.
We're very curious about what you think about pluck 4.7 beta. We welcome all your input here on the forums and encourage you to report any bugs you might find on Launchpad.
If everything goes well, we plan to release pluck 4.7 final at latest at the end of August, but possibly earlier.
Kind regards,
the pluck development team

Though I haven't used Pluck in a long while ever since I designed two websites on it years ago, I have been visiting the forums on a regular basis hoping to hear the news of 4.7s release and it containing features that had forced me to look elsewhere in the recent years.
I love the features mentioned in the release notes. They are what I have been waiting for a long time. I will definitely look into the beta and give my feedback and maybe make a list of demands as well for the final version.

Thanks andyash for your comment. I'm looking forward to hear your test report. But please note that the final will be released soon, and we don't intend to add any new features to it, but just fix bugs...

Initial comments.
1. Comments should be allowed to be enabled/disabled on individual items or categories instead of globally. This way the web designer can choose the blog item or category where he wants more user feedback and when he wants to close/disable comments.
2. Can we have album descriptions please?
3. I also remember the previous versions of Pluck used to have the main album image in rotation. 4.7 beta albums use a static image with no option to choose which should be the main album thumbnail image. I much preferred the previous dynamically changing thumbnail.
4. How do I get Clean URLs? I didn't see the option in settings.
All in all, a great improvement over the previous versions. Much needed.
EDIT:
5. Can we also have the date/time setting for individual blog items? Many users moving from earlier versions of Pluck or from static html sites or other CMSs will be moving their news/blogs to Pluck. A large amount of these will be old entries. It helps to have the date/time customisable so we can manipulate entries.

Thanks andyash for your comments. Most of them sound like good ideas and not too much work to develop, but it's not possible anymore to add them for the 4.7 release (as it's only meant for bug fixing).
I'll give some comments on a few of your points.
4. How do I get Clean URLs? I didn't see the option in settings.
This is the only thing that's still being worked on (the 4.7 beta code needs some small adjustments for this to work). I think 4.7 final will have basic support for this.

This is a nice idea for a future version. For now, if this is really necessary, the post date/time can be changed directly in the post files. Besides, the update script will convert dates on old 4.6(.x) blogs to the new format. I don't know if you tested the update script, but it will convert pages, blog and albums from 4.6(.x) to 4.7 format.

I was just hoping that since these modifications were not time consuming they could have enhanced this version more.

I hope that I will (before 4.7 release time) made, just for you, and others, enhanced modules. Ad 1, 2 and 3 are rather simple. Ad 4 im working right now, only ad 5 is much more work and i have to look into and think about it.
Jus like Sander sad. Now is RC time and we are working only on bugs.

Glad to see the GUI hasn't dramatically changed much. What will change when creating themes?
I would also like to see a thumbnail view of each theme when selecting a new theme. Is this possible?

Take a look at the theme guide for 4.7, it will answer your question.

No, this is not possible with the current version.

Pretty simple but still time consuming with 218 themes to convert.

No, this is not possible with the current version.
Most people want to choose the "look" of their site before creating any "pages" for the site.
This means creating a page first then choosing a theme then checking if you like it, if not picking another theme, check if you like it, if not choosing..... You get it I'm sure!
This is why many of your top cms's allow people to choose the theme first via thumbnail.
Consider this for a future release, please.

Like I promised, albums enhancements module is avaliable at page: http://pluck-cms.org/docs/addons:module … _47_series
Blog enhancements module may still need some work so I can only send it to people who want to test it. Write me a PM with a mail where to send blog module.
